  • Description

President Anwar Sadat claimed on Saturday (22 September) that the recent Cairo Summit between Egypt, Syria and Jordan was a necessity prompted by the present Middle East situation.

Speaking to a group of Arab politicians, academics and intellectuals, Mr. Sadat said Jordan, as a frontline state facing Israel, should not be left out in current Arab moves to mobilise all resources in the confrontation with Israel.

President Sadat underlined the importance of setting aside all Rab differences under the present circumstances.

King Hussein of Jordan had conferred in Cairo with President Sadat and Hafez Al-Assad of Syria after a long estrangement because of sharp disputes on handling the conflict with Israel.

President Sadat described the cairo tripartite Summit as "successful".

The Egyptian Head of State also explained world changes in the light of the recent United States-Soviet Union detente, Arab efforts to end the Middle East deadlock and other matters relating to the struggle against Israel.
