    LIEUTENANT-GENERAL ANKRAH, GHANA'S HEAD OF STATE, OPENED ACCRA'S NEW KOTOKA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ON TUESDAY (25 FEB). THE AIRPORT WILL BE OPEN FOR PASSENGER TRAFFIC IN MARCH.

    GHANA'S NEW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IS NAMED AFTER THE LATE LIEUTENANT-GENERAL EMMANUEL KWASI KOTOKA, WHO LED THE COUP WHICH OVERTHREW FORMER PRESIDENT KWAME NKRUMAH THREE YEARS AGO.

    THE AIRPORT WAS BUILT BY A FRENCH FINANCIAL CONSORTIUM AT A COST OF SEVEN MILLION NEW CEDIS (ABOUT 2.4 MILLION STERLING). THE OPENING CEREMONY WAS PART OF THE CELEBRATIONS TO MARK THE THIRD ANNIVERSARY OF THE REVOLUTION, WHICH OVERTHREW MR NKRUMAH. GENERAL ANKRAH WAS SHOWN ROUND THE AIRPORT BUILDINGS BY THE DIRECTOR OF CIVIL AVIATION, MR. E.R.K. DWEMOH.
