  • Description

Charles Besson, who hires out boats on Lake Geneva, France-Switzerland, received anonymous threatening telephone messages Mar 23. They said: "If you want to hold on to your life - and your boat - then give up your plan".

The boat concerned is the "Star of Geneva", and soon he will be using to carry Algerian nationalist delegates to the French lakeside resort of Evian. The delegates are leaders of the FNL (National Liberation Front) and they will be meeting French Government representatives to attempt to bring peace to the troubled North African territory of Algeria.

Whichever town on the Swiss side of the lake the Algerian nationalists may choose. Evian will be only minutes away by motorboat. Transporting the delegates by water will eliminate a host of security problems for the French, it is reported.

At Evian, the cease-fire negotiations will be held in the Hotel du Parc, standing in its own grounds on the lakeside. It has a private landing stage.
