  • Description

Supplies and a small advance unit for Ghana's military contingent in the United Nations peacekeeping force in the Middle East flew out from Kotoka International Airport, Accra, on Friday (January 18).

The full airlift of Ghanaian contingents for the U.N. force will begin next Tuesday. Over 200 tons of equipment and supplies will be preceding them, flown out by West German Air Force transports.

The Ghanaian units will form a large part of the 1,000 African troops serving with the U.N. Emergency force.

Ghana broke off diplomatic relations with Israel shortly after last year's October War in the Middle East, claiming that the relations would remain severed until Israel withdraw from occupied Arab territories.
