Background: South Vietnamese and communist troops are poised for a major battle for control of the Norther Highlands of South Vietnam. Can Tanh and Firebase-Six lying near the point where the borders of Cambodia, Laos and South Vietnam meet have come under heavy attack since the beginning of April. Some 6,000 Norther Vietnamese troops are reported massed around Fire Base Six. Early this week North Vietnamese troops attacked the support base Dak To. they finally withdraw leaving 45 dead and four prisoners behind.
Visnews cameraman Tran Huu Trong, who took this film reported that South Vietnamese gunships were hit by ground fire as they strafed and rocketed communist positions around Fire Base Six. Today (Friday) it seems the communist fire power has been increase and relief helicopters are having a tough time nearing the Base.
