Background: At the end of the fifth day's play in the second MCC vs. West Indies cricket Test Match, Feb 2, many English sports-writers were tolling MCC's death knell. West Indies was 366 runs behind with eight second innings wickets in hand. The team's batting cream - Worrell and Sobers, who decimated MCC's bowling in the first Test - had yet to bat.

The pitch, surprisingly, was still in good condition. The general feeling was that MCC Captain Peter May should have made West Indies follow-on.

The morning's play opened with Illingworth and Trueman. The score stood at 196 for 7. MCC batted for another 50 minutes losing Trueman and Allen, and declared before lunch at 230 for 9 - 500 runs ahead of West Indies.

Solomon and Hunte opened West Indies' second innings. At lunch the score was 28 for no wicket.

Allen, in his first over after lunch, had Solomon caught by wicketkeeper Swetman for 9 runs. The score - 29 runs for 1 wicket. Kanhai came in. He trashed Allen's bowling, scoring 23 runs in 20 minutes.

The day wore on with West Indies gradually adding to the score. Then, with three-quarters of an hour to finish, Allen and Swetman gained another wicket - Hunte, caught for 47. West Indies' score - 107 for 2.

Sobers came on for the last few overs. And the day finished with West Indies 134 for 2.

The following day MCC swept aside the West Indians, winning by 256 runs with nearly two hours play left.
