    AIR CONGO INCREASED ITS JET CAPACITY ON TUESDAY (21 NOVEMBER), WHEN OFFICIALS OF THE AIRLINE TOOK DELIVERY IN TOULOUSE, FRANCE, OF THE FIRST TO TWO FRENCH-BUILT CARAVELLE AIRLINES. THE SECOND AIRCRAFT IS SCHEDULED TO BE HANDED OVER IN MID-1968.

    OVER 200 OF THESE MEDIUM-RANGE JETS HAVE NOW BEEN COMPLETED AND DELIVERED FOR AIRLINE SERVICE. THOSE FOR AIR CONGO ARE MARK 2R'S CAPABLE OF CARRYING 80 PASSENGERS OR OF RAPID CONVERSION TO CARRYING 60 PASSENGERS AND THREE TONS OF FREIGHT.

    FORMED IN 1961 AS THE NATIONAL AIRLINE OF THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO, THE SYSTEM ALREADY OPERATES A BOEING 707 SERVICE FROM KINSHASA TO BRUSSELS IN CLOSE CO-OPERATION WITH THE BELGIUM SABENA COMPANY. AIR CONGO HAS ALSO CHARTERED A BRITISH-BUILT BAC III JET FROM LAKER AIRLINES AND THIS IS BEING USED FOR INTERNAL AFRICAN SERVICES.

    AMONG THE OFFICIALS TRAVELLING ON THIS FIRST SERVICE FLIGHT WERE M. PAYTIYO, CABINET CHIEF REPRESENTING THE MINISTER OF TRANSPORT, M. PIERRE MANDEMYO, AND M. FERNANDO ESSANDJA, VICE-PRESIDENT OF AIR CONGO.

    OTHER AFRICAN AND MIDDLE EAST SERVICES ALSO USING THE CARAVELLE INCLUDE AIR AFRIQUE, MIDDLE EAST AIRLINES, AIR MAROC, KINGDOM OF LYSIA AIRLINES, AND TUNISIAN AIRLINES.
