TO MARK THE EVENT, CELEBRATIONS WERE HELD IN THE CAPITAL, HANOI. MEANWHILE, AMERICAN MILITARY AUTHORITIES SAY THAT THEY HAVE LOST A TOTAL OF 225 AIRCRAFT SINCE RAIDS OVER NORTH VIETNAM BEGAN 14 MONTHS AGO.

    THE NORTH VIETNAM NEWS AGENCY, ON 29 APRIL, REPORTED THAT THE 1,000TH PLANE TO BE SHOT DOWN WAS ONE OF SEVEN SHOT DOWN OVER VARIOUS AREAS IN NORTH VIETNAM ON THAT DAY.

    ON 1 MAY, U.S. MILITARY SPOKESMAN SAID THAT AMERICAN AIRCRAFT LOSSES OVER NORTH VIETNAM TOTALLED 225.

    NORTH VIETNAM MARKED THEIR CLAIM BY SPECIAL POSTERS ON STREET HOARDINGS AND THE ISSUE OF STAMPS.

    THE SAME NIGHT, A RALLY WAS HELD IN HANOI, ADDRESSED LE-DUAN, FIRST SECRETARY OF THE NORTH VIETNAMESE LABOUR PARTY; PREMIER PHAN VAN DONG; AND TRUONG CHING, CHAIRMAN OF THE NATIONAL CONGRESS.
