  • Description

COUTURIER PIERCE CARDIN RECEIVED A STANDING OVATION ON FRIDAY (30 JANUARY) FOR A HIGHLY CREATIVE COLLECTION SHOWN NEAR THE END OF THE PARIS FASHION WEEK.

HE MANAGED TO GIVE THE LONG LENGTH A CONTEMPORARY LOOK WITH SKIRTS THAT ARE SPLIT, SLIT, OR CUT AWAY TO KEEP LEGS IN FOCUS.

THE CARDIN STORY IS BASED ON THE OLD THEORY THAT A GLIMPSE IS MORE SEDUCTIVE THAN THE WHOLE SHOW, AND HE USED OPEN PLEATS, PEEPHOLES, WINDOWS AND TRANSPARENCY IN NORMAL WEAR.

THE ENTIRE COLLECTION WAS PACKED WITH NEW IDEAS IN SILHOUETTES FABRICS, COLOURS, DETAILS AND ACCESSORIES.

HE HANDLED TRANSPARENCY FOR EVENING WITH LONG, SLINKY CHIFFON GOWNS SLIT UP THE BACK TO THE TOP OF THE THINGS. THE SAME EFFECT APPEARED IN DAYTIME SEPARATES, WITH ANKLE LENGTH SLINKY SKIRTS CUT UP THE BACK LIKE A PAIR OF OPEN SCISSORS.

COATS WERE VENTED AT THE BACK. DRESSES WORN OVER MATCHING TIGHTS HAD A VARIETY OF PLEATED EFFECTS OR LONG STREAMERS OF SELF FABRIC. MANY DRESSES HAD SHIRTS CONTRIVED LIKE JAPANESE LANTERNS, WITH LONG SLIT MAYPOLE STREAMERS THAT FLUTTERED WITH MOVEMENT. OTHERS WERE MADE OF ELASTIC MATERIAL TO GIVE THE BOUNCING EFFECT.
