  • Description

THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER, MR. WILSON, TOLD THE WEST GERMAN CHANCELLOR, HERR KIESINGER IN BONN TODAY (WEDNESDAY) THAT BRITAIN'S EXPLORATORY TALKS ON ENTERING THE EUROPEAN COMMON MARKET COULD HAVE A PROFOUND EFFECT ON THE ECONOMIC STRENGTH AND INDEPENDENCE OF EUROPE.

MR. WILSON, AND THE BRITISH FOREIGN SECRETARY, MR. BROWN, ARE IN BONN FOR TALKS WITH SENIOR MEMBERS OF THE WEST GERMAN GOVERNMENT.

MR. WILSON SAID BRITISH EXPLORATIONS ON THE COMMON MARKET COULD LEAD TO WIDER EUROPEAN UNITY, BENEFITING WEST GERMANY, BRITAIN AND THE PEACE OF THE WORLD GENERALLY.

DOCTOR KIESINGER, HOLDING HIS FIRST MEETING WITH THE BRITISH PRIME MINSTER SINCE THE BECOMING WEST GERMAN CHANCELLOR IN DECEMBER, SAID HE HOPED HIS DISCUSSIONS WITH MR WILSON WOULD HELP CLEAR UP PROBLEMS AFFECTING THE INTERESTS OF WEST GERMANY AND BRITAIN.

MR. BROWN BREAKFASTED TODAY WITH THE GERMAN FOREIGN MINISTER, HERR WILLY BRANDT, AND GAVE THE WEST GERMAN MINISTER A DETAILED ACCOUNT OF DISCUSSIONS WITH THE SOVIET PRIME MINISTER, MR. KOSYGIN WHO VISITED BRITAIN LAST WEEK.

THE BRITISH FOREIGN SECRETARY TOLD HERR BRANDT OF THE SOVIET LEADER'S VIEWS ON EAST-WEST RELATIONS, PARTICULARLY THE PROBLEM OF GERMAN REUNIFICATION.

HERR BRANDT DEFENDED MR. BROWN AGAINST GERMAN COMPLAINTS AT THE FOREIGN SECRETARY'S REMARKS ON THE DISPUTED ODER-NEISSE BORDER, WHICH IMPLIED BRITISH RECOGNITION OF THE BORDER. THE WEST GERMAN MINISTER SAID MR. BROWN WAS ONLY REPEATING STATEMENTS MADE BY A PREVIOUS BRITISH FOREIGN MINISTER.
