  • Description

APART FROM A NUMBER OF STRIKES, INCLUDING STOPPAGES ON THE TRAMWAYS AND THE 'STAR' FERRY, HONG KONG HAS BEEN QUIET FOLLOWING THE RECENT RIOTING. ON THURSDAY, AS LIFE RETURNED TO NORMAL IN THE COLONY, HONG KONG PLAYED THE SCOTTISH REPRESENTATIVE XI LOSING 4 - 1 BEFORE A MODERATE-SIZED CROWD.

SCENES OF THE 10 DAYS OF RIOTING HAD BEEN CAPTURED BY CAMERAMEN IN THE COLONY, AND THE PHOTOGRAPHS THEY TOOK HAVE ATTRACTED LARGE CROWDS OF PASSERS-BY SINCE THEY HAVE BEEN PUT ON PUBLIC DISPLAY.

MOST SHOPS HAVE TAKEN DOWN THEIR PROTECTIVE WOODEN SHUTTERS FORM THE WINDOWS. BARBED-WIRE BARRICADES AND STRONG POLICE GUARDS STILL PROTECT GOVERNMENT HOUSE, AND SLOGANS PAINTED ON THE WALLS DURING THE ANTI-BRITISH DEMONSTRATIONS STILL WAIT TO BE CLEANED OFF.
