Background: Mr. Henry Kissinger, the White House Adviser on National Security Affairs, flew from Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland on Saturday (16 October) on his way to Peking to plan President Nixon's visit to the People's Republic of China, which is expected to take place sometime early next year. Unlike the secret trip which Mr. Kissinger made to Peking last July, this one was announced well in advance. He is due to reach Peking...after stopovers in Hawaii and Guam... on Wednesday (20th October).

SYNOPSIS: Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, where the White House Adviser on National Security Affairs, Mr. Henry Kissinger, arrived on Saturday before flying to Peking to help plan President Nixon's visit to the People's Republic of China, expected to take place early next year. Unlike the secret trip Mr. Kissinger made to Peking last July, this one was announced well in advance.

With Mr. Kissinger on the trip are nine other White House and government officials. They're all travelling aboard a Presidential jet which is due to arrive in Peking on Wednesday after stopovers in Hawaii and Guam.

No firm date has yet been set for President Nixon's historic visit to the Chinese capital, but it's expected to take place before May.

United States observers feel that because the advance party is going to Peking now, the President's journey may not be far off... possibly early in the New Year. On arrival in Peking Mr. Kissinger will spend four days in preparatory talks with Prime Minister Chou En-lai.
