  • Description

A group of women demonstrated outside the Office of Prime Minister Yitzhat Robin in Jerusalem on Sunday (12 October), during a cabinet meeting demanding additional settlements on the Golan Heights.

They were led by Motti Ashkenazi, an ex-army Captain, who commanded one of the strong points of the Bar-Lev line during the October war.

Captain Ashkenazi immediately after the war, started a one-man campaign which led to mass demonstration just prior to the resignation of the former government. He later moved with his family to settle in the new immigrant town of Ma'alot.

He gave his support to the women as the cabinet held a ministerial committee meeting to discuss security.

For security reasons, details of the meeting were not given, but it is assumed that the Chief of the Israeli Intelligence, General Shlomo Gazit who attended the session, reported on the situation in Arab countries after the Egypt-Israel accord.

Following the cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister addressed a dinner of the United Jewish Agency in the Knesset building. He referred to the agreement with Egypt and spoke strongly about current events in Lebanon.
