Background: British commandos boarded helicopters On Her Majesty's Carrier Bulwark yesterday (Saturday) to storm an airstrip in Penarek East Malaysia as part of an air-land-sea exercise to test the battle capability of 25,000 service-men from five nations.

The commandos attacked the strip held by 2,000 well-entrenched infiltrators from the mythical state of ganasia played by black pyjamed gurkhas.

The ganasian guerrillas attempted a counter attack but were driven off. The commandos fanned out to secure the perimeter of the strip before conventional planes could land.

A patrol attacked remnants of the guerrilla force which others penetrated deeper into ganasian-held territory in patrol boats and armoured cars.

The exercise, codenamed Granada, climaxed a series of war games that began three months ago based on the idea that ganasian infiltrators planned to topple the Malaysian government.

Troops from Malaysia, Singapore, Britain, New Zealand and Australia are taking part in the games which plan to prove that Malaysia and Singapore will have a defence system capable of offering emergency aid quickly after Britain's military withdrawal next year.
