China Pakistan have been exchanging views on foreign affairs. While the foreign Affairs adviser to Pakistan President General Zia-ul-Haq had been meeting China's Premier Hua Kuo-feng (Hua Guofeng) in Peking, President Zia-ul-Haq has been playing host to a Chinese delegation.
SYNOPSIS: The seven man delegation led by Li Yutang of the Chinese fifth ministry of machine building met the Pakistani President at General Zia's home in Rawalpindi on Saturday night(19 May). Unofficial sources report that discussions focused on the Russo-Afghanistan and Pakistan border situation. Pakistan has been the reluctant host to fifty thousand Afghan refugees since the Markist government seized power a year ago. The Pakistan Defence Minister, Ali Ahmad Talpur also attended the meeting.
While the Chinese delegation was in Rawalpindi a United Nations mission arrived in Islamabad to investigate the problems of Afghan refugees in the North-West Frontier Province and Baluchistan.
General Zia has said Pakistan wants to deal with the refugees problem in a humanitarian way and that it is not possible to force Afghans to return to their own country. Its understood that General Zia and Mr Li also discussed the Chinese Vietnamese border situation.
