    THE LEIPZIG SPRING FAIR, A MEETING PLACE FOR EAST-WEST TRADE, OPENED IN THE EAST GERMAN CITY TODAY (SUNDAY). SIXTY-FIVE NATIONS, INCLUDING SEVERAL AFRICAN COUNTRIES, ARE DISPLAYING 10,290 EXHIBITS AT THE LARGELY TECHNICAL FAIR.

    AFTER TODAY'S OFFICIAL OPENING, THE EAST GERMAN HEAD OF STATE, HERR WALTER ULBRICHT, VISITED THE EXHIBITION. IT WAS OPENED LAST NIGHT BY DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER WOLFGANG RAUCHFUSS WHO DECLARED IN A SPEECH THAT EAST GERMANY'S EXPORTS TO CAPITALIST COUNTRIES ROSE BY AN AVERAGE OF 12 PER CENT LAST YEAR.

    HE RE-ITERATED EAST BERLIN'S DESIRE THAT WESTERN INDUSTRIAL STATES SIGN LONG-TERM TRADE AGREEMENTS AND ESTABLISH OFFICIAL TRADE MISSIONS IN EAST GERMANY.

    ELECTRONICS AND AUTOMATION EQUIPMENT WILL BE A KEY TARGET FOR CONTRACT HUNTERS AT THE EXHIBITION.

    FIRMS FROM 26 WESTERN COUNTRIES AND 25 DEVELOPING NATIONS HAVE EXHIBITS AT THE FAIR, BEING HELD IN LEIPZIG'S CITY HALL. THE LARGEST STAND IS THAT OF THE USSR, EAST GERMANY'S BIGGEST TRADING PARTNER.
