  • Description

THE TOWN OF KRAPINA, IN NORTHERN YUGOSLAVIA, WAS THE LOCATION OF AN IMPORTANT PALEONTOLOGICAL DISCOVERY IN 1899 WHEN PROFESSOR DRAGUTIN GORJANOVIC-KRAUBERGER FOUND FOSSILS AND REMNANTS OF NEANDERTHAL MEN, ANIMALS AND STONE TOOLS IN CAVE. TODAY IN KRAPINA PARK, THE DISCOVERY IS RECORDED PERMANENTLY WITH A COLLECTION OF SCULPTURES WHICH RECONSTRUCT THE PREHISTORIC MAN AND HIS FAMILY, AND MANY OF THE 'HUGE ANIMALS WHICH ROAMED THROUGH EUROPE BEFORE BECOMING EXTINCT.

EVER SINCE THE DISCOVERY OF THE VALUABLE REMAINS AT THE END OF THE LAST CENTURY, KRAPINA HAS ATTRACTED SCIENTISTS AND ANTHROPOLOGISTS. NOW THE SCULPTURES IN THE PARK ATTRACT EVEN MORE TOURISTS.

THE RECONSTRUCTIONS WERE MADE BY ARTIST STANKO TUCAKOVIC, OF ZAGREB, IN CLOSE CO-OPERATION WITH SEVERAL PALEONTOLOGISTS. THE PARK IS TO BE ENLARGED AND 'NEW SCULPTURES WILL BE ADDED SHORTLY.
