    HE ARRIVED IN MANILA ON SUNDAY ON THE SECOND LEG OF HIS MALAYSIAN PEACE MISSION. THE FOLLOWING DAY, HE HELD INFORMAL BREAKFAST TALKS WITH PRESIDENT MACAPAGAL OF THE PHILIPPINES. HIS WIFE ETHEL WAS AMONG THOSE PRESENT.

    THE FILIPINO LEADER PLEDGE HIS FULL CO-OPERATION WITH MR. KENNEDY'S EFFORTS TOWARDS A PEACEFUL SETTLEMENT OF THE MALAYSIAN CRISIS. HE SAID PROSPECTS FOR AN EARLY MEETING BETWEEN MALAYSIA, THE PHILIPPINES AND INDONESIA WERE ENCOURAGING.

    THE LATE U.S. PRESIDENT'S BROTHER ALSO REPORTED ON HIS TALKS IN TOKYO LAST WEEK WITH PRESIDENT SUKARNO, WHO, LIKE PRESIDENT MACAPAGAL, OPPOSES THE MALAYSIAN FEDERATION. HE SAID HE HAD ASKED THE INDONESIAN LEADER TO HELP EASE TENSION ALONG THE BORDER OF INDONESIA BORNEO AND MALAYSIA.

    AFTERWARDS, MR. KENNEDY TOOK TIME OFF FOR A SIGHTSEEING TOUR OF MANILA. FIRST STOP WAS AT AN ART GALLERY.

    THEN HE DROVE TO THE MEMORIAL TO THE FILIPINO PATRIOT JOSE RIZAL, A NINETEENTH CENTURY NATIONALIST WHO WORKED TOWARDS ESTABLISHING EQUALITY BETWEEN FILIPINOS AND THEIR SPANISH MASTERS.

    FINALLY, A VISIT TO THE WOMEN'S UNIVERSITY, WHERE HE GOT A WILD TYPICALLY-LATIN RECEPTION. THAT NIGHT HE FLEW TO KUALA LUMPUR.
