  • Description

The troubles in Northern Ireland, and particularly in Belfast, where shooting and rock throwing are almost commonplace in the day-to-day battles between Catholic, Protestant and those trying to maintain a semblance of law and order, have taken a new and particularly violent turn. Newsmen on Sunday were shown the latest weapon being used against British troops. They're nail bombs--lethal packages of gelignite around which are packed long, heavy-duty nails. When exploded the nails are sent flying through the air. During a house-to-house search troops found a new, bigger version of the bomb.
