    President Omar Bongo of Gabon has sent his Foreign Minister, Mr Martin Bongo, on a tour of North African countries for talks on the worsening situation the Western Sahara. Already Mr. Bongo has held discussions in Libya, Algeria, Morocco and Chad. The Western Sahara is to be the subject of an impending summit meeting of the Organisation for African Unity (OAU).

    SYNOPSIS: Gabonese Foreign Minister Martin Bongo arrived in Nauakchott, Mauritania to relay a message from his leader who is also the acting President of the OAU.

    After being met at the airport by Mauritanian Foreign Minister Hamdi Ould Mouknass, the party went on to meet President Ould Daddah. The worsening situation in the Western Sahara is to be the subject of an extraordinary summit meeting of OAU. Morocco and Mauritania, who jointly partitioned Western Sahara last year, have produced evidence this month (November) of military activity inside their borders by Algerian troops. Algeria has responded to threats of pursuit action across her frontiers by warning that war would follow such move. The text of the message which Mr. Martin Bongo has taken to the heads of state of the five countries, Libya, Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, and Chad, has not been disclosed.
