Background: A United States Army sergeant, who said he strolled inadvertently over the Czechoslovakia Border while he was out on a fishing spree on June 10, was released at the Austrian border near the hamlet of Klein-Haugsdorf on Tuesday, June 24.

The sergeant, James Cole, was arrested by Czech border police. On his release - still wearing his fishing outfit and carrying his rod and tackle - Cole drove in an American Embassy car from the sleepy hamlet to Vienna. He will later rejoin his unit at Munich.

He was still carrying a wad of dollars he had on him when arrested. "The Czechs treated as well," he told reporters at the frontier border.

The sergeant, 54, is from ???ville, Pennsylvania.
