    DR. ERHARD EPPLER, WEST GERMAN MINISTER FOR ECONOMIC CO-OPERATION, INAUGURATED THE AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH AND TRAINING INSTITUTE AT IFAKARA, SOUTH-WEST TANZANIA YESTERDAY (MARCH 22).

    DR EPPLER SAID WEST GERMANY FULLY SUPPORTED TANZANIA'S DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS AS EXPRESSED IN THE SECOND FIVE-YEAR DEVELOPMENT PLAN, AND COMPARED TANZANIA'S DEVELOPMENT POLICIES WITH THOSE OF WEST GERMANY. BOTH COUNTRIES, HE SAID, AIMED TO IRON OUT ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL INEQUALITIES. IN HIS SPEECH DR. EPPLER WENT ON TO REVEAL THAT WEST GERMANY WOULD SOON BE SENDING MORE EXPERTS TO HELP TRAIN TANZANIAN FARMERS. ON SATURDAY HE MET PRESIDENT NYERERE AND MEMBERS OF THE CABINET TO DISCUSS PROBLEMS OF AID FOR DEVELOPMENT; ALL PARTIES HAD EXPRESSED SATISFACTION WITH THE DISCUSSIONS. MR. DEREK BRYCHESON, TANZANIA'S MINISTER FOR AGRICULTURE SAID THE TYPE OF HELP GIVEN THROUGH THE INSTITUTE WAS EXACTLY THE SORT OF AID TANZANIA NEEDED BECAUSE IT WAS BASED ON THE PARTNERSHIP PRINCIPLE, AND ADDED THAT THROUGH EXTENSION COURSES THE RESULTS OF THE INSTITUTE'S RESEARCHES WERE QUICKLY PASSED ON THE FARMERS OF THE REGION.

    PRESIDENT JULIUS NYERERE CUT A TAPE TO OFFICIALLY DECLARE NEWEST GERMAN-FINANCED INSTITUTE OPEN. IT WAS FIRST ESTABLISHED IN 1963.

DR EPPLER SAID WEST GERMANY FULLY SUPPORTED TANZANIAN'S DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS AS EXPRESSED IN THE SECOND FIVE-YEAR DEVELOPMENT PLAN. ALSO PRESENT AT THE CEREMONY WERE PRESIDENT AND MRS. JULIUS NYERERE, AND MR. NORBERT HEBBICH, WEST GERMAN AMBASSADOR TO TANZANIA.

EPPLER WENT ON TO COMPARE TANZANIA'S DEVELOPMENT POLICIES WITH THOSE OF WEST GERMANY, SAYING THAT BOTH COUNTRIES AIMED TO IRON OUT ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL INEQUALITIES HE REVEALED THAT WEST GERMANY WOULD SOON BE SENDING MORE EXPERTS ;TO HELP TRAIN TANZANIAN FARMERS. ON SATURDAY DR. EPPLER MET WITH DR. NYERERE TO DISCUSS WEST GERMAN AID.
