And the chances for peace are diminishing, if they are not men-existent almost. They are too full of their military victories. They are encouraged by the support they receive so freely. By the equipment they receive, which is not defensive by nature, but offensive. In the face of all that it is imperative here in Jordan, as it is in other Arab states I suppose, that we mobilise all our resources in an organised fashion to face what may come....to face what may happen at any time...."

Background: At his press conference in ??? yesterday (Saturday) King Hussein said there had been no victors and no vanquished in the two days of clashes between Jordanian government forces and Palestinian commandos. He also spoke of the ??? danger of a "fresh explosion" with Israel following increased border hostilities.
During the conference, held in the cinema of the royal palace, King Hussein expressed his regret about the fighting between his troops and the guerrillas, in which 30 people were killed, according to unofficial reports. It was probably all due to a misunderstanding, he said, denying claims by the commandos that his tough internal security measures had been designed to liquidate their movement.
The King was pessimistic about the Israel-Arab situation. The chances of establishing an honourable and just peace were diminishing every day and every hour, he said.
