    Ghana has been chosen to host the 11th Africa Cup of Nations football championships in 1978.

    In a vote taken during a meeting of the African Football Confederation in Addis Ababa on Thursday (26 February) Ghana was favoured over Nigeria by 20 votes to seven.

    Making the bid for the honour, Ghana's, deputy Commissioner for Sport, Lieutenant-Colonel M.. Simple Asante, declared that his country had the capacity and the organisational competence to stage a tournament of such magnitude.

    When the results of the vote were known, he promised that Ghana would organise the championships in the real and true spirit of brotherhood that was "typical of the African".
