    THE NEW WHARF REPLACING ONE IN SERVICE FOR THE PAST 24 YEARS IS DESIGNED FOR TANKERS UP TO 45,000 TONS - A SIZE DICTATED BY THE APPROACH CHANNEL. TAKING ON THE FIRST OIL LOAD WAS THE "CALTEX TARKZA" THE LATEST SHIP IN THE CALTEX OIL TANKER FLEET, SAILING UNDER THE DUTCH FLAG WITH CAPTAIN EIZENDOORN" IN COMMAND.

    PETROL COSTS THE MOTORIST ONE SHILLING AND SIXPENCE A GALLON ON BAHREIN WHERE OIL PRODUCTION GOES BACK 27 YEARS.

    THE NEW WHARF, SPEEDING THE LOADING OF TANKERS, HAS HOSE - HANDLING RIGS, THE FIRST OF THEIR PARTICULAR KIND, WHICH DISPENSE WITH THE SLOW MAN-HANDLING OF HOSES BETWEEN THE TANKER AND THE UNDERWATER PIPES TO IT.
