Background: Pittaburg Pirates defeated Chicago Cubs 6-5 in a home game on Tuesday (October 1) and put themselves at the top of the baseball National League Eastern division.

With only one day left of the baseball season, Pittsburg are assured of at least a tie for the league title - and a possible place int he World Series.

The highlight of the game was a fine home run hit by Pittsburg batter Bob Robertson, who swung a hit into the crowd beyond left field, to give the Pirates a lead at a crucial stage.

Earlier the Pirates had trailed the Cubs 4-3 but came back from behind. coming back in storming style is a feature of this season's Priates team. In 17 of their last 25 victories, they have rallied when trailing.

SYNOPSIS: Pittsburg Pirates, playing at home to Chicago Cuybs and making a big for the National League Eastern Division title. A win over Dubs will put them to of the league.

Pirates are batting against a Cubs lead, established int he early innings. But batter Popovic hits into the right outfield to bring Pirates another run.

A wild pitch by the Cubs' Laroche...and Pirates scramble towards victory. Coming back from behind is their speciality.

Now, batter Bob Robertson is on the plate and he swings a giant hit into the crowd beyond left field. It's the high spot of a close-fought game from which Pirates ran out winners 6-5.

The winning run...and their defeat of the Cubs puts Pirates at the head of the league table with only one more day left of the National League baseball season. And whatever happens now, Pittsburgh Pirates are assured of at least a tie in the title race - and a possible place in the World Series.
