    AN ENGLISH FAMILY WHO ARRIVED IN AUSTRALIA BY SEA ON THURSDAY CAUGHT A PLANE BACK TO BRITAIN FROM SYDNEY ABOUT 40 HOURS LATER, BECAUSE THEY FOUND THE WEATHER TOO HOT. MR. AND MRS. W. MOSS AND THEIR FOUR CHILDREN ARE BELIEVED TO HAVE SPENT ABOUT GBP2,000 STERLING ON THEIR ROUND TRIP.

    MR. MOSS, WHO REFUSED TO GIVE HIS ADDRESS IN BRITAIN, SAID HE "COULDN'T STICK THE WEATHER". PARTS OF AUSTRALIA, INCLUDING THE MAJOR CITIES OF SYDNEY AND MELBOURNE, ARE AT PRESENT EXPERIENCING A SUMMER HEATWAVE, WITH TEMPERATURES OVER 100 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. MR.     FOOTNOTE: A FAMILY LIVING IN LINCOLNSHIRE, ON THE EAST COAST OF ENGLAND, RECEIVED A LETTER FROM LOCAL AUTHORITIES RECENTLY WARNING THEM THAT, BY BUILDING GARDENS AND ROCKERIES ON THE BANK OF A RIVER THAT RUNS BEHIND THEIR HOUSE, THEY COULD WEAKEN THE BANK AND BE LIABLE TO "TRANSPORTATION TO AUSTRALIA FOR SEVEN YEARS" UNDER ACTS OF PARLIAMENT OF 1801 AND 1861 WHICH HAVE NEVER BEEN REPEALED.
