We have Saudi Islamisation of its laws. We have Saudi Arabia, we have the Gulf States, we have Islamic states, nine hundred and twenty five million of people of the world belong to Islamic world, belong to Islamic... ...states, and they are practising. When I say whole hog I mean to the best of whole ability and according to the conformity of the situation today. And Islam which in my opinion is the most flexible of the ways of life that has been laid down, can be brought into conformity with the modern day requirements. And it is that when I say whole hug, I mean that the should be no dichotomy in our beliefs, in our preachings in our practice. We had to postpone the elections, the Supreme Court gave us a mandate. But now I can assure you that until the unless (indistinct) that the basic conditions for which I came, for which we look over on the fifth of July, unless they be modified the I will not indulge in any such luxury of holding an election."

Background: Pakistan's military ruler, General Zia ul-Haq is expected to resign from the Army within the next few months, and try to establish himself as the 'civilian' ruler of the nation. According to Western experts the gamble could prove to be the downfall of the Pakistan strongman, it will depend entirely on his support from the military, and his ability to keep them on line. At a news conference this weekend, Zia said that the question of his own future was constantly on his mind.

SYNOPSIS: Zia has been ruling Pakistan with an iron hand since the overthrow of Mr. Ali Bhutto twenty-eight months ago. And his cancellation of the November elections this year has caused widespread dissatisfaction within the country.
