FREISTADT WAS OUTPOINTED BY TONY HUMM, WHOM HE BEAT IN THE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP EARLIER THIS YEAR.

    IN THE OPENING BOUT, MANFRED MAESS (WEST GERMANY) DEFEATED RON RUSSELL (BRITAIN) IN THE SECOND ROUND OF THE FEATHERWEIGHT DIVISION. THE ENGLISH BOXER WAS AHEAD ON POINTS WHEN THE BOUT WAS STOPPED BECAUSE HE HAD A CUT EYE.

    IN THE SENSATION OF THE NIGHT, WEST GERMAN LIGHT-MIDDLEWEIGHT, CARL BRUNNHOLZ WAS FIRST DECLARED THE WINNER OVER RON SMITH. BRUNNHOLZ WAS ON THE FLOOR TWICE IN THE THIRD AND FINAL ROUND, AND TOOK SEVERE PUNISHMENT.
