    THE SECOND VICE-PRESIDENT OF TANZANIA, MR. RASHIDI KAWAWA YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY) ATTENDED A PASSING OUT PARADE OF 332 SERVICEMEN OF "OPERATION ULINZI" AT RUVU NATIONAL SERVICE CAMP.

    MR. KAWAWA, WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINLAND TANZANIAN DEFENCE, THE NATIONAL YOUTH SERVICE, AND OTHER ORGANISATIONS, INSPECTED A GUARD OF HONOUR OF THE GROUP.

    HE PRESENTED CERTIFICATES TO THE FOUR MEMBERS OF THE UNIT WHO SHOWED OUTSTANDING PROGRESS DURING THE COURSE - THREE MEN AND A GIRL. HE ALSO GAVE A CUP TO THE LEADER OF THE BEST SECTION.

    THE 332 YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN HAVE NOW COMPLETED THEIR INITIAL TRAINING AT THE NATIONAL SERVICE CAMP. THE 137 WHO ARE VOLUNTEERS WILL NOW BE WORKED INTO VARIOUS NATIONAL SERVICE CAMPS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY, THE 195 CONSCRIPTS WILL STAY LI THEIR REGIONS FOR TWO MONTHS BEFORE TAKING UP THEIR CAREERS.

    IN HIS SPEECH AT THE CEREMONY THE VICE-PRESIDENT SAID THAT WHEN THE YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN HAD FINISHED THEIR NATIONAL SERVICE THEY WOULD DO WELL TO RETURN TO THEIR HOMES AND HELP BUILD IN TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT SCHEMES, RATHER THAN SEEK WORK IN TOWNS.
