Background: Globetrotting soccer superstar Pele was in Malta this week--demonstrating his skills to a host of youngsters during a training session at Gzira Stadium.
Pele's visit was at the initiative of Malta's celebrated sporting priest, Father Hilary--who plays a major part in organizing sport on the island, and who introduced the Brazilian soccer hero to local youngsters.
For the next hour or so, the youngsters were put through a rigorous training programme by one of the sport's few soccer millionaires.
Since playing his last game for his club Santos in the autumn, there have been various rumours that the great Pele might be lured back to play again at club level. The latest rumour, breaking just before he arrived in Malta, links his name with the United States Cosmos club. Reports in the States suggest that the deal could be worth another million dollars to Pele.
