  • Description

Crowds of onlookers and officials were at Kuala Lumpur's international airport on Sunday to welcome Mr. William McMahon, the Australian Prime Minister, who was making the last stop on his tour of Southeast Asia.

Mr. McMahon was arriving from Singapore where he had been holding talks with Government officials on matters of defence, trade and general cooperation in Asia.

Mr. McMahon was met by the Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak and others from the Malaysian cabinet. The welcome was ceremonial and the visiting Premier inspected an honour guard while the band of the Malay Regiment played "Waltzing Matilda" -- one of Australia's best-known tunes.

Government sources in Kuala Lumpur said the main topics of discussion between the Australian and Malaysian Prime Ministers were likely to be defence and foreign relations in the context of Malaysia's neutralisation policy for the region.
