  • Description

Banned South African newspaper editor Donald Woods, who last Saturday (31 December) fled to Lesotho in disguise, has called for the free nations of the world to apply strong pressures against South Africa. In an interview on his arrival in Maseru, the capital of Lesotho, he described the short-term future of South Africa as disastrous, and said he believed most blacks advocated an economic boycott, even though this would add to their suffering. He stressed that the South Africans must be pressurised into negotiating with the blacks.

SYNOPSIS: At the British High Commission in Maseru, where he was promised political asylum on arrival in Britain, 43-year-old Mr. Woods gave his views of South Africa's political future during this interview.
