  • Description

Argentina forgot her political and economic troubles, May 25, and united to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the colonists' revolt against Spanish rule. In Buenos Aires, the capital, one of the big events was a giant military parade with over 17,000 service-men taking part. Bringing history to life again, selected squads from the oldest Argentinian regiments were wearing uniform similar t those worn in the wars of independence.

It was an international occasion, too. Places of honour were occupied by the President of Peru, Cuba and Uruguay, and altogether more than fifty nations were represented. One of the distinguished guests was Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, now suffering from virus pneumonia. Military took part in the parade itself.

Overhead roared British and U.S. jet aircraft, in service with the air forces of Argentina and other South American countries.
