    British Prime Minister, Edward Heath, held talks in Nicosia yesterday (Thursday) with Cypriot leaders including President Makarios.

    Mr. Heath is in Cyprus on his way to the Commonwealth Prime Ministers' Conference in Singapore.

    At a luncheon attended by Mr. Heath and President Makarios both remarked on the disappearance of the bitterness that marked Anglo-Cypriot relations during the EOKA troubles before independence 10 years ago, and the friendly relations that now existed.

    Mr. Heath also met other Cypriot leaders including Vice-President Dr. Fazil Kutchuk and community representatives. Mr. Heath has said that British supports all efforts being made to solve differences between the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities.

    At Salamanca Barracks Mr. Heath watched units of British armed forces training in self-defence and rifle drill. The Prime Minister took the opportunity to discuss service life with members of the commando groups.

    Mr. Heath was due to fly to Islamabad in Pakistan on Friday before proceeding to Singapore via New Delhi.
