    A MILITARY PARADE IN KHARTOUM YESTERDAY (MONDAY) MARKED THE FOURTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE 1964 REVOLUTION WHICH OUSTED SUDAN'S MILITARY REGIME. WATCHING THE PARADE WITH THE LEADING MEMBERS OF THE SUDANESE GOVERNMENT WAS PRESIDENT ABDI RASHID ALI SHERMARKE OF SOMALIA, WHO IS IN THE SUDAN ON A FIVE-DAY VISIT.

    PRIME MINISTER MOHAMMED AHMED MAHGOUB WAS ONE OF THE SPEAKERS AT THE ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS, BUT WITH HIM ON THE VIP DAIS TO WATCH THE MARCH PAST WERE THE PRESIDENT OF THE SUDAN ISMAIL EL AZHARI, AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE SUPREME COUNCIL.

    THE MARCH PAST OF THE SUDAN ARMY INCLUDED INFANTRY UNITS, CAVALRY, ARMOURED VEHICLES AND ARTILLERY UNITS. HEAVY TANKS WERE NOT IN THE SHOW AS THEY WERE TOO HEAVY FOR THE ROAD.

    PRESIDENT SHERMARKE OF SOMALIA, WHO IS ACCOMPANIED BY MEMBERS OF HIS CABINET, IS IN THE SUDAN TO DISCUSS GENERAL AFRICAN PROBLEMS. PRESIDENT EL AZHARI VISITED MOGADISHU LAST JULY FOR THE CELEBRATIONS OF SOMALIA'S EIGHT YEAR OF INDEPENDENCE.
