    More than one thousand delegates attended the opening of the 11th National Congress of the ruling Kunomintang, or Nationalist Party, in Taipei.

    Addressing the delegates, the Taiwanese Prime Minister, General Chioang Ching-kuo, said that more than sixty representatives from China were attending the party caucus meeting.

    The General said that the Kuomintang would face the present world political situation realistically. He said Taiwan would also maintain its responsibility for what he termed, "the freeing of the Chinese Mainland from the yoke of communism."
    It is the first meeting of the Kuomintang caucus in seven years. The Prime Minister said the meeting was being held at a most crucial time. He said that the goals of the party were within reach as he accused the Chinese government of being involved in what he termed. "a ferocious power struggle."
