    LEADERS OF THE 14 NATIONS ARRIVED IN LUSAKA YESTERDAY FOR AFRICA'S "LITTLE SUMMIT" MEETING AT WHICH THEY ARE EXPECTED TO DISCUSS THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE COUNTRIES TAKING PART.

    SEVEN HEADS OF STATE WILL BE AMONG THE 150 DELEGATES TO THE THREE-DAY CONFERENCE.

    ALTHOUGH ECONOMIC CO-OPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT ARE EXPECTED TO BE THE MAJOR SUBJECTS OF THE CONFERENCE, THE NIGERIAN CIVIL WAR, AND THE SITUATION IN THE SOUTH AFRICA ARE ALSO EXPECTED TO BE DISCUSSED.

    PRESIDENT KAUNDA WAS AT LUSAKA AIRPORT TO GREET THE HEADS OF STATE AS THEY ARRIVED.

    ONE OF THE FIRST TO ARRIVE WAS PRESIDENT JULIUS NYERERE OF TANZANIA.

    ZAMBIA, THE HOST COUNTRY, LAID ON A FULL AND COLOURFUL WELCOME AND A HUGE CROWD WENT ALONG TO THE AIRPORT TO WATCH THE ARRIVALS. AFTER PRESIDENT NYERERE HAD MET ZAMBIAN DIGNITARIES HE LEFT FOR LUSAKA.

    PRESIDENT ISMAIL EL AZHARI OF SUDAN, WHO HIMSELF HAD BEEN HOST LAST YEAR IN SUDAN TO PRESIDENT KAUNDA, RENEWED A FIRM FRIENDSHIP.

    AND FROM UGANDA, PRESIDENT MILTON OBOTE, IN AN INTERVIEW, PRESIDENT OBOTE, COMMENTING ON THE NIGERIAN CIVIL WAR, SAID THAT IT WAS THE "SHAME OF AFRICA". THE PRESIDENT WENT ON TO SAY THAT THE RECENT VISIT TO NIGERIA BY THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER HAROLD WILSON HAD DONE ONLY HARM BECAUSE IT HAD CONCENTRATED ATTENTION ON THE PROBLEM OF GETTING RELIED SUPPLIES TO BIAFRA INSTEAD OF THE MAIN ISSUE, WHICH WAS TO END THE WAR AND STOP AFRICANS KILLING AFRICANS.
