  • Description

Ken Norton, the undisputed number one contender for Muhammad Ali's world heavyweight crown, wants the World Boxing Council (WBC) to honour its commitments by getting Ali to defend the title against him. Norton, speaking on Wednesday (30 November) at the WBC's annual convention in Madrid, said that before he beat Jimmy Young in their recent final eliminator, Ali promised to meet the winner. The champion, however, seems in no hurry to do this. The WBC ordered him to defend against Norton by December the 31st, but Ali has gone ahead and arranged to meet 13th ranked Leon Spinks on February the 15th. Now WBC President Jose Sulaiman of Mexico has urged Ali to either defend against Norton or 'retire from boxing in triumph."
SYNOPSIS: Fight officials came from all over the world for the convention. And even in his absence, Ali as always was high on the agenda. The world champion is a Law unto himself and this is why Ken Norton decided to speak to delegates in person.

With Norton in Spain, was America fight impresario Don King, who knows Ali will-he has staged several of his fights.
