Mr. HO CHI MINH, President of North Vietnam arrived in New Delhi on February 5th amidst scenes of great joy. President Dr. Prasad and Prime Minister Nehru were at the airport to welcome the visiting dignitory. President Ho arrived at the Palam airport in a Indian Airlines Skymater from Calcutta where he had spent the night. Immediately alighting from the plane President Ho warmly kissed President Prasad, Mr. Nehru and other dignitories present at the airport. He was thereupon introduced to the cabinet Ministers. A smartly drawn Guard of Honour presented arms and Mr. Ho then inspected the troops. He then met the members of the diplomatic corpse.
A group of children ran up and presented the President with flower bouquets. He and Mr. Nehru posed for a photograph with the children. A group of India children garlanded the president. Welcoming President Ho Chi Minh, on behalf of Dr. Prasad who left earlier due to illness, Mr. Nehru declared his happiness at the visit and hopes for better relations to come out of the tour. President Ho then replied to Mr. Nehru amidst clapping and cheers of the vast crowd.
In the afternoon President Ho, visited Raj Ghat and laid wreathe at the samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi. He stood in silence for homage. Later he called on President Prasad and had talks with him. Prime Minister Nehru is having talks with President Ho and both are expected to issue a joint communique shortly.
