The annual Trappers' Festival: a time each year when people taking part sing and dance in the streets and stay up 'till all hours of the night. The first symptoms of the "good-times-to-come" make their appearance at the first of the year when men don furs and muk-luks....to get into the swing of things, and to keep warm.
At festival time: a bevy of Fur Queen candidates. Marlene Craig of Flin Flon is the reigning monarch. A colorful part of the activities in the community four-hundred-and-fifty miles north of Winnipeg is the amount do race. Time event covers a distance of one-hundred-and-fifty miles, in three laps. Winner of the first lap was Art Allen, a dog-sled driver who learned the art in the Pas area. He covered the distance in just under four hours. And in this second lap, is off to a good start.
