Almost two million foreign tourists visited Bulgaria in 1971, the majority of them drove through the country from West to East and back by car. But some of them were not "tourists" in the proper sense of the word: they carried illegally currency, gold and valuables, arms and narcotics. In some 15 successful snatches the Bulgarian police confiscated some 600 kilos of hashish and other narcotics. The estimated worth of these drugs is about 100 million US dollars.

On a quite Aril morning in the Sofia incinerator all these drugs were burned without much ado. There were present besides our cameramen only representatives of the police and customs offices and the Bulgarian Commission for Control of Narcotic Drugs.
