  • Description

INTRODUCTION: In the Hungarian capital of Budapest, a Hilton Hotel has opened - the first of the American international chain to be built in a Communist country.

SYNOPSIS: The Hilton Budapest is the 68th in the Hilton chain. It was completed late last year.

The Hotel is a blend of the old and the new - an up-to-date construction amid a surrounding of historic monuments. It incorporates wings of the ancient Nicolas Church, where the Black friars once preached. The services provided by the hotel are the very latest in luxury, in line with Hilton hotels in other countries.

The Hotel has three main restaurants, with private halls and bars. There are 323 bedroom and 20 apartments - all air conditioned. So are the bars.

The Hilton Budapest is the property of the Hungarian Government. It was financed by the Hungarian National Bank, and 107 Hungarian companies took part in its construction - using mostly local materials.

Present at the Hilton Budapest's opening ceremony, were the Deputy President of the Hungarian Praesidium, Mr. Rezso Trautmann; The Minister of Home Trade, Mr. Vilmos Sagi; and the President of Hilton International, Mr. Curt Strand. Hilton are paid percentage of the profits by the Hungarian company Danubius, which runs the Budapest Hilton.
