    SIX-THOUSAND YOUNG PEOPLE ARE SPENDING THEIR SUMMER VACATION THIS YEAR TENDING WAR GRAVES IN EUROPE AND AFRICA. ON JULY 11, SOME ONE-HUNDRED-AND-TWENTY YOUNGSTERS FROM ALL OVER EUROPE WERE WORKING IN THE SOVIET CEMETERY ON LUENEBURG HEATH, WEST GERMANY, WHILE OTHERS ATTENDED A MEMORIAL SERVICE BEFORE BEGINNING WORK AT THE SOVIET CEMETERY AT NIENBURG.

    AT LUENEBURG HEATH, WHERE THE GERMAN ARMY SURRENDERED TO BRITAIN'S FIELD MARSHAL MONTGOMERY, THE YOUNG VOLUNTEERS HAVE CLEARED AWAY TALL WEEDS, CLEANED THE STONE MEMORIAL SLABS, AND GENERALLY TIDIED THE SOVIET WAR CEMETERY.

    MEANWHILE, OTHERS ATTENDED A BRIEF CEREMONY AT THE SOVIET CEMETERY AT NIENBURG HELD TO MARK THE OPENING OF THEIR TWO-THREE WEEK'S WORK AMONG THE ESTIMATED 20,000 SOVIET GRAVES THERE. MEMBERS OF THE REGIONAL GOVERNMENT ATTENDED, AND DEAN REPTE, PRESIDENT OF THE ORGANIZATION FOR THE CARE OF WAR GRAVES, LAID A WREATH, WHEN ASKED LATER WHY THESE YOUNGSTERS VOLUNTEERED FOR THIS TASK, DEAN REPTE SAID HE FELT THEY WERE DETERMINED TO SHOW THAT IT WAS POSSIBLE FOR INTERNATIONAL YOUTH TO WORK TOGETHER IN HARMONY.
