  • Description

Visnews filmed at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University May 4 as negro students staged a mass protest to draw nation-wide attention to the case of one of their fraternity - a negro girl raped by four white students when on her way home from a college dance.

They stayed away from classes to conduct a day-long passive demonstration, sat on the University steps, sang hymns, spirituals and carried banners proclaiming "We love our women too" and tragically, "She could have been your sister."
One student said "the wheels of Justice are turning. We believe right will prevail...we have God on our side."
The four white rapers are being held in custody, as the Leon County Grand Jury meets in special session to consider the case. State Attorney Hopkins says they will be held without bail until the next grand jury meeting June 1st.

    Nightly student demonstrations continue.
