TRANSCRIPT: INTERPRETER: "WE HAVE PROMOTED ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL EXCHANGES WITH THE CHINA MAINLAND, AND AS FAR AS THE POLITICAL ASPECT OF IT IS CONCERNED, IF YOU RECALL, THAT IN THE UNITED NATIONS, WE CONSIDERED THE QUESTION OF CHINESE REPRESENTATION AS AN IMPORTANT MATTER. WITH RESPECT TO THE -- AND THIS IS A TIME WHEN WE FACE THE SITUATION IN CHINA OF A CULTURAL REVOLUTION -- I MYSELF AM ENCOUNTERING CONSIDERABLE DIFFICULTY IN ASSESSING THE EXACT SITUATION WHICH NOW PERTAINS ON THE CHINESE MAINLAND. IT IS A NEIGHBOURING COUNTRY AND THEREFORE VERY IMPORTANT TO US THAT WE KNOW THE SITUATION AND WHAT IS GOING ON IN THAT COUNTRY. I HAVE SAID THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO BE ON GOOD RELATIONS WITH THE CHINESE PEOPLE, BUT THE IMPRESSION I GET IS THAT THERE IS A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF FLUCTUATION GOING ON WITHIN THE CHINA MAINLAND, AND WE SHOULD FOLLOW THE EVENTS THAT ARE NOW TAKING PLACE ON THE CHINESE MAINLAND WITH GREAT CARE."
