Background: The fluff and the chiffon and the glitter is back. After nearly a decade of being something between somber and straight, the femme fatale will be back as a big star in the Paris Couture collections for Autumn and Winter.
On Monday (23 July), all the high fashion houses intend to concentrate on sophistication, with formal evening wear taking priority over sports and daywear.
Their designers believe that if a client is going to spend anywhere from 7,000 to 15,000 france (GBP 700 to GBP 1,500 STG) for a dress or ensemble, she wants to look like real couture. The vamps will be wearing sinuous sheaths of black satin or vaporous gowns of transparent flesh colored mausseline, high heeled court shoes and open sandals, fur or feather boas, and dripping with pearls, massive gold necklaces and byzantine-inspired jewellery.
The Pierre Balmain collection is just that. A lot of everything exotic and feminine. At a preview of his Autumn and Winter collections in Paris on Friday (20 July), he explained his new creations.
Following is an English transcript of Pierre Balmain's commentary over the parade of his fashions.
