  • Description

Independence day in Cuba, and in the 25 Feb parade through the streets of the city of Havana a float carrying the Yacht in which Fidel Castro and 81 men returned to Cuba in December 1956 commands place of honour.

With fireworks brilliantly lighting the sky, the parade took an international character with drum-majorettes from Florida, bands from the University of Miami, and Miami's Jackson High School. A trick riding squad came from Florida, school-kids from Venezuela.

The Grito de Baire (as they call this celebration in Cuba) is a national holiday, and another attempt at attracting the tourists and the dollars Fidel Castro cannot do without to bolster his economy.
