    The only men to ever win the Olympic marathon twice - Ethiopia's Abebe Bikila - was buried in Addis Ababa on Friday (26 October). He died on Thursday (25 October) aged 46, after a brain haemorrhage resulting form a car accident in 1969.

    Bikele was Ethiopia's greatest long-distance runner, and served as a Captain in the Imperial Bodyguard. He was buried with military honours in the presence of Emperor Haile Selassie, members of the Cabinet, and a huge crowd.

    He had spent the past four years, following the car accident, in a wheelchair, paralysed from the waist down. Just before his death he had been in a coma for five days.

    Bikile leaves a wife, three sons and a daughter.
