  • Description

Louis Armstrong, Negro jazz trumpeter, convalescing in Rome after his attack of pneumonia, leaves his hotel and, with Mrs. Armstrong, takes a taxi to the villa of Countess Alice Paolozzi for a dinner party. There cameramen and newsmen invade the villa grounds.

Trumpeter Armstrong - 'Satchmo' to his millions of fans - went to Spoleto, Italy for a music festival. He was suddenly taken ill after flying in from New York and was given oxygen treatment in hospital. Doctors feared for his life, said blowing down a wind instrument for years was bound to weaken the lungs and heart.

In hospital he had a relapse but was soon up again. His doctor warned he should stay in bed for six weeks but Armstrong in Rome says he hopes to fly to New York in time for his 59th birthday July 4.
